Commitment to sustainability

From innovative repair services to helping communities prepare for tomorrow’s challenges, we’re contributing to a more sustainable future.

Taking steps towards a better tomorrow

Reducing our emissions

We get our electricity from Ecotricity, Aotearoa New Zealand’s only Toitū climate-positive certified electricity provider. They supply us with electricity generated from 100% renewable sources (wind, hydro, and solar), which helps us to reduce our overall energy emissions, alongside other initiatives. We’re transitioning our corporate fleet vehicles to hybrids and EVs. Plus, we’ve started installing solar at AMI MotorHub sites, with our first onsite solar installed at AMI MotorHub Onehunga.

We're also encouraging our customers to go paperless by opting to receive their documents via email.

Lower impact repair services

AMI MotorHub sites feature energy efficient paint booth technology, wastewater recycling, and hybrid courtesy cars.

AMI HomeHub is a Toitū Enviromark Gold certified organisation. Committed to sustainability, they have reduced travel emissions by virtually assessing around 50% of claims and the Auckland site recycles around 70% of building waste.

Encouraging sustainable choices

If you’ve had a total loss claim and are rebuilding your home, AMI Home Insurance offers up to $15,000 for sustainability upgrades that can be used on approved sustainable products. This includes items that make your home more energy-efficient or reduce environmental impact, such as solar water heating systems or environmentally friendly paint.

Protecting our future

Building climate resilience

We’re sharing our claims data and insights to help New Zealanders prepare for climate change. Our Wild Weather Tracker highlights natural hazard-related claims, seasonal weather and preparedness tips. The AMI Disaster Claims Hub supports natural disaster readiness and recovery.

Your say on climate change

As an insurer, we see first-hand the impact a changing climate can have on our customers and communities. The annual IAG Climate Change Poll gauges New Zealander’s attitudes towards climate change and focuses on the actions they want to see taken in our collective response.

Uplifting people across Aotearoa

Changing lives with Habitat

We partner with Habitat for Humanity New Zealand, whose vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. They make a real difference for the families they work with through the provision of homes, making homes habitable and promoting fair and decent housing. Our teams have volunteered thousands of hours helping to repair homes, distribute curtains and winter packs and volunteering in Habitat ReStores.

Connecting with communities

The AMI community events team held 37 local events this past year, supporting around 35,000 people across Aotearoa New Zealand.

From Tradie BBQs and Driver Reviver pit stops to Home Shows and more, we offer insurance education, risk reduction and safety information — and sometimes a free sausage or two.

Safeguarding our people together

A good sense of community makes for a safer and stronger New Zealand. By supporting Community Patrols across the country we’re helping them to build safer communities.

Trade shows and expos

More than just industry showcases, these events connect us with our communities. We meet locals, hear their stories, and share ways to protect what’s most important to them.

Celebrating our cultural tapestry

AMI proudly takes part in cultural festivals across Aotearoa including Chinese New Year, Diwali, Auckland Pride and Te Matatini – engaging with our communities every year.

Our People

The best way to ensure our people can take care of you is by building a great workplace. Here are just some of the ways we support our team.

DVFree Tick
