How are breakdowns and mechanical failures covered

If you've taken our Comprehensive car cover, you’re covered if your vehicle suffers any mechanical, electrical or electronic breakdown or failure, if it is a direct result of an external source that is covered under your policy, such as a car accident or a flood.

Your policy doesn't cover you for a sudden breakdown (unless caused by one of the events listed above) or a breakdown caused by wear and tear. In this situation your best option is to refer to your vehicle’s mechanical warranty if one's available or contact your preferred repairer.

For example:

  1. Suspension damage as a result of a collision is covered
  2. Suspension damage as a result of wear and tear is not covered

If you want protection for unexpected breakdowns on the road, you can add the AMI Roadside Rescue optional benefit. For more information, see AMI Roadside Rescue.

If you have Full cover, you can choose to add our AMI Roadside Rescue cover to your policy. For more information, see AMI Roadside Rescue.
