How is wear, tear and depreciation covered

Like all things, with time your vehicle will experience some sort of wear and tear as you use it. Your policy doesn't cover:

  1. Depreciation
  2. Wear and tear
  3. Rust or corrosion
  4. Gradual deterioration to your vehicle

For example, if your vehicle has rust and requires a repair in order for it to get a warrant of fitness, you won't be able to claim this repair through insurance.

When your vehicle has suffered damage or loss and we’ve accepted your claim, if we elect to repair it, we will do so, so that the vehicle is as close as possible to the same condition it was in before the loss or damaged happened.

Here’s a few examples of parts and accessories that depreciate:

  1. Alloy wheels depreciate over time. These are covered by the current second-hand value.
  2. Batteries have a lifespan of 3 to 5 years. E.g. If your battery is two years old and has been damaged as a result of the accident you’re claiming for, we’ll cover 60% of the cost of a new one.
  3. Accessories such as car stereos, speakers and roof racks are also examples of items that depreciate over time.
