How to stay covered with AMI

Step 1.

Receive your AMI offer

We’ll send an offer of insurance for each of your personal insurance policies with Aon. Your offer will include new AMI policy documents and a quote to review.

Step 2.

Review details & cover

Read your new AMI policy documents carefully, checking important details like your personal information, sum insured, excesses, optional benefits, cover variations, and limits. Find key information for each policy below or call us for support.

Step 3.

Update your payments

Call us to set up a direct debit from your card or bank account or make a one-off annual payment. For most AMI policies, you can also set up payments online or via the app and pay by instalments without extra cost.* Make sure you cancel relevant payments to Aon.

*Instalments are fee-free for home, landlord’s, contents, car, and motorcycle policies.

Managing your claims

If your claim relates to something before your AMI policy start date, your Aon broker will manage it. For anything after, our friendly claims team is here to help — call us on 0800 801 202 or claim online via My AMI or our app.

Motorcycle insurance

We’re excited to offer a new AMI Classic Vehicle Insurance policy from 14 December 2025, designed with your classic car or motorcycle in mind.

Please note, for policies starting before 14 December 2025, you will have an AMI Vintage and Classic Car Insurance policy and/or an AMI Motorcycle Insurance policy. Customers on these policies will automatically renew onto the new AMI Classic Vehicle policy at their next renewal.

  • For glass claims (like windscreens or windows), your policy excess will apply
  • AMI Roadside Rescue is not available for vintage or classic vehicles or motorcycles
  • Get in touch if you have riding apparel, spare parts, or accessories not in or on your vehicle or motorcycle that you want covered.

AMI Classic Vehicle Insurance (applies to policies from 14 December 2025)

Your sum insured amount:
All classic cars and motorcycles on this policy will be either agreed value or market value (or the sum insured if less). Get in touch if you’d like to check or change the amount your car or motorcycle is insured for.

AMI Vintage and Classic Car Insurance (applies to policies before 14 December 2025)

Your sum insured amount:

Most of our Vintage and Classic cars on the AMI Vintage and Classic Car Insurance policy have a fixed agreed value which requires you to keep this amount up to date to reflect the current value of your vehicle. Give us a call if you’re not sure if this applies to your vehicle or would like to update the agreed value.

Note: Roadside Rescue is not available for Rural Vehicles.

We’re excited to offer a new AMI Boat Insurance policy from 14 December 2025, designed with your boat in mind.

Please note, for policies starting before 14 December 2025, customers will have an earlier Boat policy wording, and will automatically be provided the new AMI Boat policy at their next renewal.

  • Check your policy documents to see what cover you have for yacht racing or contact us if you’re unsure, or if you would like to add or remove any optional cover for yacht racing.
  • Some boats, like kayaks, canoes, rowing skiffs, dinghies, or boats powered by sail or motor with a replacement value up to $3000 (including parts and accessories), may be covered under a contents policy.  Get in touch with our team for more information.

If your boat is damaged beyond repair, we’ll pay the sum insured amount, or the market value of the boat at the time of the incident (whichever is less). Please note, for policies starting before 14 December 2025, customers will have an AMI Caravan and Trailer Insurance policy wording and will automatically be provided the new AMI Trailer policy at their next renewal.

  • your trailer is under $750 in value, as it may be covered as an optional benefit under a comprehensive vehicle policy if you have one
  • your trailer is a horse float or has living or sleeping quarters, as a caravan policy may be better suited to your needs, or your trailer is a boat trailer as it may be covered under a boat policy
  • you have any questions about your cover

What we will pay for a total loss

If your trailer is damaged beyond repair, we’ll pay the sum insured amount, or the market value of the trailer at the time of the incident (whichever is less).

So, it’s important your sum insured value is kept up-to-date to reflect the current market value of your trailer. If you’re not sure what to insure it for, give us a call.

Please note, for policies starting before 14 December 2025, customers with earlier AMI MotorHome cover, will automatically be provided the new AMI Motorhome policy at their next renewal.

What we will pay for a total loss

  • Your policy excess will apply to all claims for damage to your caravan, including glass claims (windows and windscreens). For policies offered after 14 December 2025, excess-free glass claims will be an optional benefit. Contact us to add or remove this optional benefit
  • AMI Roadside Rescue is not available with Caravan policies.

 If your caravan is damaged beyond repair, we’ll pay the sum insured amount, or the market value of the caravan at the time of the incident (whichever is less).   • no one will be living in your home for more than 60 consecutive days.

Our cover may be different to what you’ve had with Aon, so here are some important differences to note.

  • Temporary accommodation cover has a limit of $30,000 
  • Replacement for total loss after fire or explosion for qualifying homes*
  • Excess-free glass and bathroom fixtures is an optional benefit 

*To qualify, you’ll need to choose a sum insured that is equal to or greater than the estimate provided by the Sum Sure Calculator.

*The AMI Rural Material Damage policy covers lifestyle buildings, their contents, and produce not covered by the AMI Home or Contents policies. It includes automatic extensions like artificial windbreaks, fences, and refrigerated supplies, with optional add-ons for items like animal feed, livestock, and buildings under construction. Answers to common questions

If it’s a product currently arranged through Aon, we can help you set up a new AMI policy at any time. To ensure continuous cover, your AMI policy should be confirmed and active before you cancel your existing policy. To get started, give us a call on 0800 801 202. Once your AMI policy is in place, please contact your Aon broker to arrange cancellation of the current policy. If you’d prefer to wait, we’ll be in touch with more information closer to the expiry date of your current policy.

At this stage you can only see active vehicle, home, contents or landlord’s policies in your online account, but we’re working towards getting all policies in the one place. Some policies are held on different policy systems depending on their type. This means they may look slightly different. However, you can rest assured that the details reflect the policies you have with us.

We are gradually removing instalment payments through internet banking as an option. 

There’s a number of ways you can pay. You can pay by instalments for these policies by setting up a direct debit. Direct debit is the easiest way to pay for your insurance, and if this is an option you would like to go ahead with then we can set it up over the phone, or you’re able to set it up online by visiting ami.co.nz/pay.

Texts from us about your policy will come from either 3866 or 4224. If you need assistance, we can review texts with you.

If we need to contact you via SMS text, we will never ask you to disclose your personal information or payment details via text message and we will always include your name and/or our 0800 number(s).
