Bringing you New Zealand’s safest car
For the last ten years we’ve sponsored the AMI Insurance NZ Autocar Car of the Year Awards and more recently, have introduced the AMI Insurance Safety Award to reward the safest car of the year.
The award came to life after research revealed that 78% of New Zealanders consider safety a super important factor in choosing a new car. It’s all about highlighting the difference that effective safety features can make in our cars.
How do you choose New Zealand’s safest car, you ask?
The judges use a mix of ANCAP safety ratings data and road reviews of new safety features that help to prevent crashes in our local driving conditions. ANCAP ratings are based on internationally recognised standards, using crash tests and safety assessments with both passengers and pedestrians in mind.
The aim of this award is to ultimately help make the roads a little safer for everyone. We hope that by rewarding safety features, car manufacturers will continue to make their cars safer. It also means that Kiwis are more educated when it comes to choosing safer vehicles for themselves and their families.
Last year the Volvo XC60 was named Safest Car of the Year and it’s pretty easy to see why. Its winning features include:
- Autonomous emergency braking with forward collision warning and pedestrian detection.
- Nine airbags.
- Lane keeping assist and lane departure warning.
- Speed sign recognition and speed limiting function.
- Optional blind spot information system.
